Aruvanpalli Puthiyapurayil Abdulla Kutty was a member of the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency of Kerala and was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for over two decades. He had his collegiate education from S. N. College, Kannur and acquired his law degree from Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Expulsion from CPI(M)

On 17 January 2009, CPI(M) Mayyil Area committee suspended Abdullakutty from the party for one year for praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's development model.[1] He had earlier expressed the opinion that bandhs and hartals were detrimental to the State's ineterests. He had also announced that he was a believer in Islam and followed this up with a visit to the mosque to participate in the Ramadan prayers. He was expelled from the Party in March 2009. The expulsion of Abdullakutty from the CPI(M) was not wholly unexpected as it was the culmination of a rift between him and the party leadership in the district and the Modi-praising episode is viewed by many as a pretext for the same.

Abdullakutty joined the Indian National Congress in April 2009. He contested as an INC candidate for the Kannur Assembly constituency and won in the byelection held in November 2009.
